Malan Breton’s “Journey to Taiwan” show was inspired by his homeland, and told a story of how his inspiration came to reality. The show started with a traditional cultural dance that gave the audience a preview of what was to come down the runway. To add to the ambiance there were musicians positioned in the middle of the runway, dressed in stunning Taiwanese attire musically curating the show. From the moment the lights dimmed--it gave me chills knowing I was about to witness an epic show.
Breton is known for his detailing and ability for creating a twist on chic designs- his eye for design never fails to amaze. Voluminous glorious gowns draped the runway along with colored tailored suits fit for Kings.
Taiwanese culture is influenced by modern and traditional elements. Ceremonial dance and song, have always played central roles in native Taiwanese life, and have strong influences relating to individuality, innovation, and creativity. The bulk of the collection contained patterned silks, intricate beading, and metallic embroideries that were noticeably inspired by Taiwanese culture.
My personal favorite was a soft pink patterned silk suit for which the most daring men would wear. Clean lines, shiny fabrics, and bright jewel tones with a little added bling were all taken to another level by Breton.
As an added bonus, the show gave the audience a glimpse of his newest swim collection which featured a subtly sexy modern aesthetic.
Malan Breton will definitely be on everyone’s radar next season.
