Summer may have begun on June 24th, but today is the official first day of summer with our Live DNDY Summer Playlist.
Summer is all about liberation, long nights, concerts, summer romance, festivals, color, and did I mention CONCERTS? It is the best time to show some skin and show the world who you are! This compilation of songs will not only allow you to do some self- discovery, but you will also discover a plethora of really amazing underground artist. With multiple genres being intertwined in this playlist, you’ll definitely be able to pump up the base, find love, and do some soul searching all at the same time.
My favorite songs on the list has all of me wanting to live everyday, fix my bad habits, update my style, and wake up to a kiss for breakfast every morning. If you haven't gotten it by that previous sentence, here's a break down of my top five songs on the playlist:
My Style: If you are big hip hop fan from New York City, then you understand the struggle of wanting to hear music on the radio that represent our city. Troy Ave, a rapper from Brooklyn, took it upon himself to remind the masses of the beautiful sound of a New York City summer. This song has enough groove to play at a family barbecue and enough bump to request it at your next house party. It features Lloyd Banks, and if you are unfamiliar with him, his style breathes New York City hip hop.
Everyday Living: Remember the days of Tumblr fame? Justine Skye took it upon herself to capitalize off her Tumblr fanbase and promote her music. Newly signed to Atlantic Record, Justine released this song off her EP called Everyday Living. To many, summer time is equivalent to grind season and this song adds a youthful, reflective spin to a hustler's anthem. In the summer everyone wants to be able to enjoy life, live out there dreams, and make some money, why not do it with "Everyday Living"
All of Me (Reggae Remix): I'm pretty sure you are familiar with the original "All of Me" by John Legend. That song is hands down the most beautiful song that has hit the radio this year. Reggae artist, Jah Cure, decided to put his spin on it and he did an amazing job. On top of the romantic lyrics of the song, the smooth reggae vibe allows you to imagine yourself at a tropical beach with your significant other. How is that for summer love?
Kisses for Breakfast: The UK songstress, Melissa Steel, teams up with dancehall artist Popcaan. It is always great to see different parts of the world working together to make feel fun, feel good music. The song alone has listeners craving for a cute summer romance, add that up with the tropical visuals of the song and may be able to find yourself a summer boo.
Habits (Hippie Sabotage Remix): There aren't that many songs that have more successful remixes than the original. Hippie Sabotage's remix has more than double the amount of YouTube views than the original song. What Hippie Sabotage adds to this song is a majestic, reflective yet also trippy element to the song. Lie back on your roof, sit by a lake, or chill at the beach and use this song to reflect on all your "bad habits" this summer.
So plug your phone into your sound system and cruise into the warm summer night with the LiVEDNDY Spirit of Summer Playlist 2014
