Fellow Brooklynite and entrepreneur, Tenyse Williams, co-founder of Dapper Dads Magazine is living proof that success begins where fear ends! A few years ago Tenyse was living what was thought to be "the good life", working within promising companies like the Brooklyn Borough President's office and CBS' Inside Edition. Randomly a friend came to her one day with an idea to begin a male magazine that highlights and uplifts african american fathers. Delighted by the idea for her own personal reasons, Tenyse jumped onboard and a year later left her secure employment position to pursue Dapper Dads full time.
"What really made me believe in this publication is growing up in a single parent household. I thought about if my own father would have seen some positive images of black fatherhood and a source of male empowerment, he would have made a different choice in regards to his children", said Tenyse
Now, 24 years old, Tenyse spends the majority of her time running the magazine with an amazing team of young visionaries and reaching out to fathers all over the country who deserve to be celebrated. She admits its hard work, much harder than her old nine to five, but its worth it because she is doing something she wholeheartedly believes in.
And it turns out that others too believe in the Dapper Dads cause. The magazines first issue featured grammy nominated artist Anthony Hamilton and his six sons. The singer was delighted to grace the Dapper Dad cover and to spread the word about the mag. Since then they have featured actor Brian White and his daughter, and most recently Philadelphia Eagle Malcolm Jenkins.
"In five years I see Dapper Dads being a young successfully black owned media entity that will change our society on how we view black men and black fathers.", said Tenyse
As for herself, Tenyse sees no reason why she too can't be a part of a societal change over the next five years as well. With career full throttle she wants it all, both career, and a dapper dad to help her begin a family of her own. "Hopefully I'll be able to start my own tribe by then (but I'm not rushing lol), I'll definitely be seeing the world and enjoying its natural land."
With such an amazing platform, growing like wildflower, and the tremendous amount of courage that Tenyse has shown in her career moves, I'm sure that she will undoubtedly, one day have it all!
